Thoughts on leadership
I’m reflective by nature. I want to understand how systems fit together before going into details, including what’s actually driving peoples actions. It shortens the path to common ground and alignment towards a shared goals. I’m inspired by bold leaders, that can get the most out of people. I think you learn most when held accountable for your actions. Leadership is fascinating, but very rewarding since it is transferrable to other areas in life, for example parenting.
As part of a leadership program at AstraZeneca few years ago, we we were tasked to draft personal leadership statement. I found the exercise to be very useful. By carefully thinking through what type of leadership I’m inspired by, and actually writing it down, I learned some about myself. This statement is what I wrote.
I do not follow it perfectly, but I revisit it at times whenever I need direction.
More on how I think about leadership day to day is on the Thoughts page.
Leadership Statement
“I believe in the intrinsic value of respect and fairness. I act on data, apply systems-thinking and coaching to navigate the complexities of decision-making to guide my team. I’m committed to fostering empowerment, I’m advocating for my team, and I’m confronting challenges with empathy and clarity. I can learn from anyone, I lead by example, and I’m only as good as my last deliverable”
